White Oak Rd

The project’s name, Contrary Cottage, arises from the fact that the house is set into a hill and as such responds to two very different, or contrary, conditions. On the private uphill side, the house is more diminutive in scale and relates to human daily activity at the pool, entertaining or relaxing. On the opposite side of the house, the public street, the house expresses a typical two-story proportion.  Either way, the house becomes animated and develops its interest from its relationship to the hillside.

As the Project Architect, I was responsible for developing the construction drawing package and coordinate with consultants.

Shielded from the break at Chatham light and with views to North Beach Island, this coastal location provides all one needs for a respite during a summer getaway. this new contemporary summer house finds its roots amongst the adjacent cottage like homes from the 1930's. With a nod to nautical influences and a diminutive scale of its own, this house is lifted out of the floodplain per F.E.M.A. requirements. On pilot is for structure, and emulating beach stutters as an exterior skin, the house echoes of a  whimsical coast architecture.

As the Project Architect, I was responsible for developing the conceptual illustrations and construction drawing package, beside of coordinating with consultants.
